Die Arme Muslim Burial Society

On Sunday, 1 November 2020 at 9:30am, my father-in-law passed. As expected, my wife and family were distraught and as in Islamic / Muslim rights our funerals / Janaazah takes place almost immediately / same day - so very little time to prepare for the funeral procession.

My father-in-law being the man he was, always prepared for this eventuality, and so had an agreement with the Die Arme Muslim Burial Society for the past +-50 years. He was always very studious about all his annual payments.

On the day in question I drove my very emotional wife with our child to Wynberg as we could not get in contact with any of the individuals at the burial society on any of their office or cellphone numbers. Eventually by walking to a private residence around the corner from the offices in Wynberg, a female relative of one of the individuals running the society informs my wife that said person cannot be contacted and none of the materials needed for the burial could be supp****.

This understandably leaves the family grief stricken due to the passing of our father but also not by the means to bury him. We eventually, at great expense, found a different burial society who accommodated us with all the necessary materials ect. to complete the Funeral / Janaazah timeously and having my father buried with dignity.

The lack of empathy on Monday, 2 November 2020 shocked me even more. When finally being able to make contact with the "Die Arme Muslim Burial Society" in person – they refused to give a refund on the janaazah materials. When what was offered was things that could've been useful the previous day (no use for it after the burial). The lack luster service and lack of empathy during a very difficult period has only been made worst by having to deal with Die Arme Muslim Burial Society. What irks me more is that there is no accountability for people like this unless one seeks a civil matter in court, again, after the fact. It's like they count on the fact that during this process families are too busy grieving to concern themselves with getting some sort of penance from them.

I write this as a warning / testament to any individuals who will in future use this service and hopefully have Die Arme Muslims Burial society raise the standards of service so that the memory of burying a loved one is not sul**** by this absolutely putrid service.
