Won't pay out for insured goods

When I joined Dial Direct, I was quoted to insure all my household goods for an amount of R385000. I have paid my premiums every single month. An assessor was never sent to me to ascertain whether or not I was (in)adequately insured.

We live in a security estate. There are approx 400 houses in the estate.

During last year on a few occasions we came home to find our garage door open. We found this strange as we make a point of waiting for the garage door to close before we drive away. The only explanation is that someone else in the estate has a garage remote with the same frequency as ours.

We did not notice anything that was missing at the time. When we moved during December we noticed that there were a number of items that had been removed from our garage, incl a safe with jewellery and my husband's fishing equipment.

We went to all the trouble of getting quotes, and reporting at the police station.

The assessor asked me to complete an inventory of goods remaining in the house, which I did.

Thereafter, I had to obtain a copy of the police report for the assessor.

After all this, Dial Direct told me that because the goods were ****** from my garage, and the garage is seen as an outbuilding, they were not prepared to pay.

Yet, the garage is attached to the house. In fact, the upper level is built above the garage. I had provided the assessor with the details of the house. She neglected to visit the premises.

Then their story changed....there was no visible signs of housebreaking. Obviously not! I asked why they did not get a report from a reputable automation specialist as to if it was possible that someone else's remote could open my garage door. This was also not done.

Now, they won't pay out for the full value of the insured goods because I don't have receipts to prove that I had the goods!!!!!!! Nowhere in my documentation does it state that I must produce receipts.

God forbid that I had a total loss in a fire, for instance. How would I prove that I had anything?

I have escalated the matter up from the assessor to the manager, who has failed to reply to any of my emails or calls or messages.

I am utterly appalled at the service from Dial Direct, after having been a loyal client for many years.
