Why do we pay insurance?

Please help me understand why we pay insurance? Ive been with DD since July 2019 and yesterday was the first time I needed them for roadside assistance. I had a minor accident involving a pole and my wheel alignment is out. This happened after 5pm. The roadside guys came and helped me quite promptly considering the time of day and traffic. They towed the car to my house. Now they say they can't help me further? Only one tow? Of course they could only tow the car to my house because we were not going to find a dealership open at that time. In fact the agent who informed me about this had the audacity to laugh at my question.
