Shady Company! Avoid DialDirect and Telesure at all costs.

DialDirect was my chosen insurance carrier when I bought my first car with my first REAL job – you know, not the family hand me down car. Back then, their service was great and their increases weren’t bad.

Many years and one insurance carrier later, I ended up back at DialDirect due to said Insurance carrier trying to balance its KZN flood losses through its JHB and CT client base (remember that?)

Forward to 31/03, and DialDirect sends me a policy document with a 25% INCREASE in premium – no rhyme or reason as to the figure. BUT WAIT! I can reduce my premium by insuring a 2nd car! ***?

Here are the facts though: • My risk profile hasn’t changed. I am above 25 and under 70. I don’t drink, nor drive recklessly. To add insult to injury, I HARDLY USE MY VEHICLE. I’ve not even added 200km to my odometer in the last year. I still work from home. • My vehicle is still securely parked in a garage, day and night in a 24-hour manned estate . • General inflation at CPI is 3%, not 25%, and considering, that my vehicle isn’t out on the road, the “spare parts and paint” argument is moot. • The ******* generic email about needing insurance for “natural disasters” is preposterous. Prove what natural disasters have struck my area in the last 5 years for you to make this argument stick?

What’s more, DialDirect cannot abide by a simple request to keep all communications in writing. I don’t wish to speak to one of their consultants. This is the consequence of eroded trust. You can’t make this go away with a telephone conversation. You can’t over-inflate a price to try and convince someone to “insure a 2nd car” to get a 15% discount on your premium. You can’t over-inflate a price so your consultant can swoop in to “reduce” it and ask for a good review to make your NPS scores look good and still get a 12.5% increase.

These are shady sales tactics dealt by a shady company. This needs to be fixed, and it will be fixed in writing so that there is a communication trail that cannot get “lost”.

PS: The most expensive quote I have from your competitors is R2000 cheaper than Dialdirect, and they offer more. I’ll be happy to take this to the Ombudsman and the media.

Hello Marlize,

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

We understand your concerns regarding the premium increase, unchanged risk profile, and your request for written‑only communication.

This is not the experience we want for our customers.

Kindly note your matter has been escalated to the relevant team, so they can review your policy and respond to you in writing.

Kind regards,
The Dial direct team.

Still no response other than the auto response from their "we're very sorry and we forwarded this on" social media team. Once the hot potato is off their desk, why would they follow up?

  1. Why is there still no response forthcoming from Dialdirect?
  2. Is it really that difficult to copy and paste a script your "renewals" team is very obviously reading off and sending it on?
  3. My 4 claim free years ended on 28 March 2026. Why is my cash-back only being paid in May? 4 years is 4 years. Not 4 years and 2 months. The latest my cashback should actually be released, is mid-April, not May.
