It Does Not pay to go direct for house insurance
Our house has been insured by Dial-Direct since we bought it. Recently I noticed a large crack appearing in our wall that makes up the wall for garage and servants quarters. This crack is approximately 1mm to 2mm wide and runs from the top of the wall(which is above the roof) to the floor. A dial direct building inspector was sent out and he said that this is due to the normal settlement of the foundations. I have a huge problem with that, in that this house was from what we can tell built in 70s. I would expect the foundations to have settled after 40 years. The inspector used was also not a qualified engineer from what I could tell from the discussion we had. This appears to be Dial-Directs normal operating procedure of you paying your monthly premiums and when you submit a claim they send out their building inspector to try come up with any reason to not pay as this is the second time we have experienced this exact same operating procedure even with the same inspector. Dial direct is great as long as you just need to pay your premiums, but forget about claiming for anything. I would strongly suggest if you wish to have building cover that you rather chose a differ insurer.
