Insane Risk Profile Process Questions at Dial Direct

I requested a call back from Dial Direct for an insurance quote. The Call Centre agent was friendly and doing his job so this review is not about him. It is about Dial Direct's "insane" process. I will refer to the Call Centre Agent as the Agent from now on. We got to the point about my Driver's License and the agent asked me what year and month did I get my license and the code.

What the agent should have advised is that I have my license on me to answer the questions. I didn't at the time and after answering that my license is a standard one for operating a vehicle, we moved on to the year and month. I could remember the year but not the month and this is where Dial Direct's insanity is clear, we were stuck on the month, I couldn't remember as its more than 30 years ago.

What difference does the month make for a Driver's License that was obtained 30 years ago. If I got my license this year or last year - then of course the month will make sense and be important for the critera to calculate the quote.

I ended things there, my reason being is that if they are this petty about a month more than 30 years ago, they are going to be as petty when it comes to paying out on a claim.

Also, their business is called "Dial Direct", they are a call centre based insurance company, the agent never stated whether he was licensed and more importantly one could hear the "noise" in the background from the other agents...which made our telephone call difficult as the agent struggled to hear my answers.

By the way asking for an ID number to perform a credit check is ******* and against the National Credit Act which states that a Short Term Insurance Product is not a Credit Agreement. If the National Credit Regulator gets their act together they can make billions from this transgression.

How odd that a little details such as a month - 30 years ago is important to an insurer for a quote but sticking to the law isn't.

This is not a review for people to avoid Dial Direct or to use Dial Direct...this is my bringing their insanity to the fore in the hope that they will change their processes in order to make their quotation process with the public a more customer friendly experience.

Who knows I might have switched to Dial Direct today, had Dial Direct's focus been on providing a quote instead of worrying about unimportant detail.

And someone's relationship status has zero to do with an insurance quote. Way too invasive and this should also be removed. Successful marriage has less than 50% chance of success put that in your risk profile pipe and smoke it Mr Actuary at Dial Direct. Why aren't insurance companies insuring marriages?
