So just a rant as not much can be done..
I have a car insured by DialDirect. The quoted amount was R815p/m with R10,300.00 excess. Unfortunately the policy was not mine but with my Father-in-law as I would have cancelled it long ago with that sort of pricing.
Anyway, vehicle is in an accident and there is R50k worth of damage and I get the bill for the excess. Thinking that was ridiculous I called up DialDirect for a quote for exact same cover as we currently have. Lone and behold the quote comes in almost R100p/m cheaper and the excess was R8,300 (still ridiculous I know). When confronting them about this they advised me that they will take it under review as how can a client for 4 years be paying more than a new client signing up.
Long story short they have agreed to lower the excess to R8300 for us... but only from the next claim!!! They will not budge for the current claim. So my question to them is where does one rule this to be *********? You expect a paying customer to keep calling to request lower premiums, when in fact they should be getting the best deals to start with.
We will be pulling 3 vehicle and 2 short term policies from dial direct. Quote from Outsurance for the same cover for the same car above was R730p/m with R4300 excess. Confused as to how two insurance companies can be so far apart with regards to excess...
Anyone looking at getting insurance, skip past DialDirect. They have no moral compass whatsoever and will rather fight you in court than fix their wrong doing.
If you lose one customer from this review it would make me happy as I am disgusted at how this has been handled from the start.

We can confirm that the correct excess was app**** to your latest claim based on the contract which was in place at the time.
It may happen that that a slight difference in premiums/ excesses can occur on new quotation versus your existing cover with various factors playing a role such as variations in product structuring and new marketing rates.
Your existing policy gets reviewed on an annual basis and we inform you in writing of any changes in premiums and excesses which may apply. We encourage policy holders to contact us following a review to discuss any changes which may have occurred ad to make sure that your cover stays up to date and relevant to your needs.
