DialDirect Acting in Bad Faith

Hi,

I would like to inform consumers of the ********* business practice I encountered as a customer of DialDirect.

I chose them 8 years ago to have my household insurance.

When you have a burst pipe or geyser they duplicate claims, one for the repairs of the geyser or pipes and another for the result in damage. I had 4 claims which makes equals 8 claims. I have no problem with this as it is for different repairs. after my most recent claim which costed them about R7000 I received that I have become a high risk customer and that they will terminate my cover. Since then I tried applying with other insurers and they all said that DiaDirect has flagged me as high risk I now can`t get cover anywhere.

My total claims over the 8 years I was told was about R90 000 hence they terminated my cover. What is strange is that I was covered for over R2mil if my house would ave burnt down or some other disaster had to happen. So I ask myself if I was covered for that amount why is my cover terminated???

I could have understood if I was told that my premiums would increase. when I claimed I never paid excess as my geyser was within the warranty period. My previous claim was December / January 2017/2018. This was avoidable as I reported my geyser overflow leaing and the specialist inspected the leak and said that the water flow was normal. He then did further inspection and happened to have a leak which he fortunately picked up. However it took DialDirect 3 weeks before they got a provider to do repairs while geyser was under warranty. They only came to my premises as my geyser burst and this was avoidable if they came as soon as the geyser leak was detected. I reported this in that 3 week period at least 2 to 3 times a week. Now I have no kitchen cupboards as well as my newly tiled floors is also damaged.

Now that DialDirect was no competent in promptly attending to the repairs that was detected timeously I now have to been blacklist by all insures and can`t get cover.

I have afriend that was also with DialDirect for almost 2years and had 1 claim for burst pipe which cause he kitchen cupboards to be badly damaged that they had to repair. After that they also blacklist her a high risk but fortunately she worked at the time for law firm who contacted DialDirect and quickly they cleared her name so that she could get cover elsewhere.

Please be aware of insurance company`s who don`t advise what your limit is for claiming before they can terminate your cover. All they say that they have the right to terminate when they deem necessary. I ask myself why do I have insurance when I am going to be afraid to claim if required.

I need help and if anyone can assist I will gladly appreciated.

Yours in frustration Zubair

We refer to your previous complaint on this forum where similar concerns was raised.

We have dealt with this telephonically as well as in writing and to summarise:

You have submitted a dispute to the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance regarding the repair issues raised here. We cannot comment on this as the matter is with the Ombudsman and any questions in this regard should be referred to the office of the Ombudsman.

The decision of accepting a risk lies with the underwriter, your policy was reviewed and a decision was made not to renew your cover based on your claims history. Your policy was then cancelled in terms of the policy contract.

When you apply for insurance it is the prerogative of the specific underwriter to decide if they want to accept the proposed risk or not.

The Dialdirect Team
