Car at panelbeater for 4 months and Dialdirect not helping

My car has been with Brooklyn Motor Lab since 2 July 2016 and to date I still have not received it. The panelbeater was chosen by Dialdirect. In August when I called the panelbeater about the status of my car, they told me they have not started fixing the car because they were still waiting for parts. They never bothered to call me to give me updates on my car until I had to call them. I found it unacceptable that my car had been with the panelbeaters since the beginning of July and only to find that 6 weeks later they were still waiting for parts.

When I called Dialdirect to intervene, they would put me on hold and then transfer me back to the panelbeater. I would call again and they would transfer me back to the panelbeater. When I spoke to one of the call centre agents and complained that Dialdirect should intervene since they were the ones that chose the panelbeater, she asked me why I did not take my car to another panelbeater instead.

At the end of August I lost my patience because I was without transport. Dialdirect refused to extend my courtesy vehicle. I enquired again with the panelbeater at the end of August and they told me they were still waiting for parts. Two months had now passed without the panelbeater telling me when my car would be fixed. They then commited to receiving the parts at the beginning of September. When I called in September they told me that parts had arrived and my car would take two weeks to get fixed. When I called two weeks later, they told me that there was something else they detected and had to order parts which would take another 15 working days. When the parts arrived, they told me that something else was detected and they had to order parts and those parts will also take 15 working days. I told them I wanted my car in whatever condition it was in and they refused, citing that Dialdirect would not allow them. They then offered by a courtesy vehicle with no petrol by the way. The courtesy vehicle was the most hazardous vehicle, worst than a taxi because it would swerve as soon as you reached 60 kilometres an hour. I complained about the vehicle and I was told that there was no other vehicle they could give me. I had to force Dialdirect to intervene and after 2 weeks the panelbeaters gave me a decent car.

On the 18th of October I called the panelbeater again to find out when my car will get fixed and the person who was helping me (David) was doing his utmost best to help me. He asked his colleague Dane while he was on the phone with me about when my car will be ready. I heard Dane telling him that the car was now with the agent and they were working on the computer box. I then asked him to give me an indication of when they at least expect to finish working on the car, and that's when I heard Dane replying very angrily to David telling him that "how can I tell him when his car will be ready when the agent does not even know what is wrong with it?". This really made me furious because I could feel the disrecpect coming from Dane.

Today is the 20th of October and I still do not have my car. David gave me a follow up call to tell me that the agent is still battling with the computer box and that it might need to be replaced. David has been very efficient in attending to me and I cannot fault him for his efforts.

In fact, I suspect that Dialdirect should have written this car off and gave me a new car. The airbags delpoyed and instead they opted to fix the car rather than do the honourable thing and pay me out. I have paid Dialdirect over R8000 in the 4 months that I have not been driving my car. This is despite the fact that I have never ever missed a single payment in the 5 years that I have been with them. I even have Life Insurance policies with Dialdirect and yet through all of this they cannot treat me with the respect I deserve. If this is how they treat their customers, imagine how they treat their employees? I should have gone to another insurer many years ago, instead I opted to stay with them. I feel that this is ********* behaviour on the part of Dialdirect because I suspect that my car should have been written off. For goodness sake, my car is only a Nissan, therefore it should not take more than 4 months to get it fixed. Whoever made this ********* decision, I hope they can live with themselves. That person will not be privy this complaint because it will probably get handled by a junior complaints handler whom is overworked for very little pay.
