False, misleading or deceptive representations

RE: Formal Complaint Regarding Misleading Advertising – Dunlopillo Sleepeasy 3/4 Bed Set Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration following a recent experience at your Centurion Mall branch on the 23rd of April 2025 regarding the advertised sale of a Dunlopillo Sleepeasy 3/4 Bed Set. The bed set was clearly advertised in-store at a price of R1,400. Upon enquiring about purchasing it at the advertised price, we were informed that the price was incorrect and that the bed could not be sold to us for the advertised amount. This abrupt refusal to honour the displayed price is not only unacceptable but also in direct violation of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) of South Africa, specifically Section 29, which prohibits false, misleading or deceptive representations concerning goods or services. Furthermore, the Area Manager’s unavailability and unwillingness to assist, citing that he was otherwise occupied, further added to the poor handling of the matter. As a customer, I expected at the very least a responsible representative to engage with us to resolve the issue, but instead we were met with indifference and inconvenience. The presence of printed promotional material in-store, which has clearly not been verified or approved by the relevant commercial and sales heads, highlights a serious lapse in internal processes. This not only wasted our valuable time but also misleads the general public, which is highly *********. An amicable and reasonable resolution in this situation would have been to: 1. Honour the advertised price of R1,400 for the bed set at the time of the enquiry. 2. Immediately rectify the misleading promotional materials to prevent further misrepresentation. This would not only have resolved the issue satisfactorily but also restored goodwill and trust in your brand. Unfortunately, the manner in which this matter was handled has left a strongly negative impression. I request that this complaint be escalated to the appropriate management and marketing teams, and I look forward to a formal response outlining how you intend to remedy this matter. If not addressed appropriately, I will have no choice but to escalate this matter to the National Consumer Commission (NCC) for further investigation. I trust you will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves. (Pictures available of the advertising in store)
Sincerely, Yulande Holmes
