What's up with DHL and Customs???
A shipment of mine arrived in the country on 18 November. Shortly thereafter it was kept aside by Customs/Border Control for inspection. It is now two weeks later and there has been absolutely no progress. Obviously this parcel has not even been looked at. I am in contact with the Stops department on a daily basis. I even have the contact details of the case officer to which the shipment was assigned to, but it seems perfectly normal to keep goods aside and then not tend to them at all. DHL, I pay you thousands of rands to get a parcel to me...you are most definitely not keeping up your end of the deal! For some reason I suspect that DHL and Customs are currently having serious issues with each other, and now I need to deal with the after effect. You guys should get your act together, as you make it impossible for small businesses to trade!
Our Industry is currently experiencing an increased volume in Stopped and Detained shipments, by Customs.
Due to the festive period, Customs has advised that there is a higher risk of contraband and false declarations being made. As a result Customs has been mandated to increase physically inspection to minimize the risk to the country.
DHL Customs Affairs Team are in constant engagement with the various Customs Divisions to ensure that the service DHL delivers to our clients are not impacted very negatively during this period.
Additional delays in Customs clearance may occur should there be any irregularities found or additional documents requested by Customs.
