Tough environment

Dhl as a company gets the job done fast and efficient there can be no doubt. But this review is about a staff member employed at Cpt international airport branch. This being the 2nd time at airport branch to find an elderly lady by name of Shireen working tirelessly and diligently. About a month ago she assisted with sending off my parcel. All good all smooth. However it was impossible to NOT notice the amount of different tasks this poor woman was juggling at the same time. Maybe it was just a busy day at the office.?Not so, fast forward 1month and again sending a parcel this time being assisted by a trainee who literally has to ask Shireen to teach him how to read let alone type on a keyboard. What utterly defies belief was how many different tasks Shireen was doing in a very short space of time. Literally 10 things at once. Allow me to tabulate:

Upon arrival she was assisting client sending off one cellphone. She had to ply open phone to write down serial number while typing details on Pc while answering to trainees questions while answering a phone call while responding to another staff member coming from behind sliding door asking her about customs and only gives a surname of some random person to which she responds. It doesn’t stop there , another client comes through the door and demands his parcel and Shireen has to explain to him it’s not cleared yet and please come back tomorrow. While still sitting ready to service clients queuing up, the security comes to the front door yells out some request to her whilst she is explaining to me the new shipping rule Dhl implemented etc etc My God! I was there struggling with trainee for 45mims and the entire time it was Shireen this and Shireen that. Omg!!! I felt as though I was going to have a nervous breakdown. it was like a pressure cooker in that tiny space. Sincerely hope Dhl with its fancy billboards and sporting sponsorships is taking good care of their staff in the remuneration dept. Especially this particular one. Although having witnessed all that I certainly would not sign up for such kind of pressure. How can 1 person literally do everything ? I made that comment out loud and the rest of the staff just shrugged and laughed. Truly shocking for a world renowned company in the year 2018.
