Shocking Service and a Rip-off

Received an SMS from them last week Wednesday 1 August advising me to be in attendance for a parcel that needs a signature on Tuesday 7th. According to their tracking site, they had received the parcel on the 1 August. I cancel an appointment and wait at home for my parcel. And wait and wait and wait. NOTHING. This morning I get a call stating that there is VAT to be paid - no apology. They will send me the details. 30 minutes later another SMS stating I must pay a certain amount. At a glance it is clear that the amount cannot be for VAT. Phone. They will send invoice. Nothing. Phone again and have a hissy. Invoice arrives. There is an EXTRA amount for Disbur*****ts, i.e. for them to transfer the VAT I had to pay to them, to SARS. What on earth was the R776 courier fee for then to deliver a hollow tube with a poster inside from the UK?

Dear Henry

DHL Express enjoys excellent relations with Customs and other related Authorities worldwide and we seldom encounter difficulties. We are unable to intercede with their procedures and regulations, as they are Government controlled entities and we have to abide to their rules and regulations. All cargo imported and exported to any country has to be lodged to Customs, regardless of the transit method. All cargo will be raised with either Duties or Taxes, pending the final clearance processes.

The shipper was advised of the process as transit charges do not include these charges.

Shipment has been released from customs and delivery will be arranged for Friday due to the public holiday tomorrow.

Kind Regards
