I recently bought an item on Ebay and wanted to courier it to SA from Germany. I went on to DHL's website and got a quote of R850. I accepted the quote, added all the details, addresses etc... but it kept rejecting my credit card when wanting to pay. I phoned DHL in SA and they told me that I must be in Germany (as a sender) to pay, but I can arrange it from this side on their website. I did that, identical details except the price went from R850 to R12 500 for the exact same thing. I thought there was an error so I phoned them again and they worked out the quote telephonically and told me it was R12500. So they charge Germans (who are far wealthier than us) R850 (48 Euros) and charge South Africans R12 500 for the exact same parcel. I obviously declined and got the German seller to send it from their side at 1/14th the price. DHL, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You overcharge Africans 14X the price.
