******* Taxes to Receive Parcels

My sisterlaw sent a gift to us from new Zealand. At her post office she paid $199 to send the package including taxes and insurance. Due to the high theft rate in SA she insured the package for $210 which is not the cost of the items! Now we received a bill from DHL for R1234 for duties & taxes. I have asked the call centre to supply the breakdown of taxes & charges for every item in the package and they have indicated that they are unable to do so in writing . Further to this we have been charged a tax amount of R401 on an amount of R832. It doesnt make sense to pay so much exorbant fees including postage when the cost of the contents is far less ! So in reality a combined amount of more than R3000 to send/receive a package of 4kg worth of cheap babys' clothes from NZ ? Looks like most people would be better of using the post office because as consumers we are getting ********** anyway!
