Overcharged on customs as well as VAT
I collected 2 parcels from the post office yesterday, one came from US (DHL Tracking no: RX***DE)and the other from Germany (DHL Tracking no: RK***DE). The parcel from US is $27 ( - R550). The duties charged was R174.35 and the VAT R84.08 (?????). The parcel from Germany has a value of about R3000. The amount charged for duties was R519.89 and the VAT R473.10. That is more than 90% VAT???<br> <br> On both invoices it states 10% of customs value. The duties charged are not even remotely close to 10% and where do they get the VAT amounts?<br> <br> Unfortunately I had to pay the fees at the post office, which I totally understand is not their fault. How do I get this sorted? This is crazy!!!!

This shipment was moving as part of the services offered from Germany called DHL Paket, under the DHL Deutsche Post Banner. Whilst we all operate under the DHL banner, we are different entities doing different functions, all operating separately with our own procedures and areas of excellence.
DHL Paket, is consignments that will be handed to Postal Authorities with no tracking available on the Express Network, as these travel as regular post. Please note this needs to be queried with the Post Office or SARS directly.
