ONE SIDED COMMUNICATION

I recently shipped a large item internationally with DHL due to arrive in Cape Town, South Africa on Friday the 2nd of October. Timings were tight as I flew out the country Tuesday the 5th on business. Tracking the package via DHL I saw it arrive in Cape Town with the status described late Friday afternoon as a 'Clearance Event'. Assuming it hadn't yet cleared or that i would be contacted regarding any customs duties that might need to be paid i left it until Monday when I realised it might not clear before I departed (still 'Clearance event'). I then both emailed and phoned DHL's call centre and informed them they should communicate with me via email as I would be unreachable via telephone. Finally on the 6th with shipping status still 'Clearance Event', I called DHL from overseas only to find they somehow not only had listed the wrong email address for me, but that 'Clearance Event' had meant there was a hold up with customs and it was left for me (on top of paying DHL a huge amount to ship the package), to do all their work for them and chase them up?Luckily they appear to have one useful employee Mbali Mbatha who helped sort things out but otherwise a shockingly pathetic effort
