Once again, numerous delays and phone lines that go unanswered

I am not one to complain in public, hence I always pick up the phone and call the company (DHL). Each time I receive a parcel via DHL I know that there's going to be some problem or another and they'll always blame 'customs'.

So last week I had a parcel come in, arrived in SA on Wed/Thurs. They called and asked for my ID no which I gave. Thursday I call to check if theres any duty that I should pay, they say nothing. Fine then I assume Friday I will get the parcel. Nothing. So I call, they say customs has released the parcel, they'll just contact the warehouse. So I wait. Monday? No parcel. Today, finally it's with the delivery man (not holding my breath).

There's another parcel (not the one with the delivery man) received via DHL which I had to call to find out what duty was payable. So they send the invoice, I pay immediately. And since they state on the invoice 'do not forward us proof of payment as we will receive notification in 30 min' I waited. And I waited. Nothing! Midday yesterday I track the parcel online and it says ''Shipment has been given a release by Customs'' and the next step says ''Unless there is an adhoc exam or a stop by another regulatory authority the shipment will proceed to delivery''. This has been the status since midday yesterday, I thought the parcel would have at least moved by an inch by now, almost 24 hours later.

I've had similar problems with DHL in the past which resulted in me using Fedex and others, surprisingly with them, a parcel barely spends 6 hours with customs. Once more I am super disappointed with DHL and this is a company I respect so much.

Somebody from DHL please help, I need this parcel ASAP. I've tried calling but your lines go unanswered.

Waybill number: ********** 354

Good morning Phume

I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to you.

As per our Tracking system I see your consignment arrived on Friday 26/08 and you were requested to provide clearance information on Saturday which was loaded on the clearance system. You were then sent an invoice for payment of Customs charges. After payment was received on 29/08 the consignment was submitted for Customs Clearance which takes 8-16 working hours for Customs to respond with a release. Your shipment was cleared on the same day of submission and had to be transported from Johannesburg to Durban on 30/08 and has arrived in Durban and is currently out with the courier for delivery this morning.

DHL Express enjoys excellent relations with Customs and other related Authorities worldwide and we seldom encounter difficulties. We are unable to intercede with their procedures and regulations, as they are Government controlled entities and we have to abide to their rules and regulations.

Kind regards,

Charmaine Ram
