I am transporting ******* substances (ask DHL Pretoria)

Yesterday I sent a parcel with DHL. Let me not even go into the details of the mess that happened before it was collected. One-and-a-half hours after collection time, I discovered by tracking the parcel on their website that there was a problem. No one at DHL phoned or e-mailed me to tell me something is wrong. Who knows how many days or weeks I would have waited if I had not seen the website. I phoned and was told the shipment had been stopped but they did not know why. Someone would phone me the following day. At 10AM I was phoned and told they would find out what happened and get back to me. ABt 13h22, I had heard nothing and phoned again. I was on hold over ten minutes and then told they thought the content might be ******* because I had sealed the box and reinforced it with packing tape. I told them to open it and look for these ******* substances. I was told they would phone by by 16h00 at the latest. It is now 17h44 and no one has phoned. The status on the DHL website has not changed. Also, when booking the collection, I asked when I would be refunded the 20% charge in case Postnet, where I had bought the box, had given me the wrong dimensions. DHL never rep****. Postnet had given me the correct dimensions, so I do not know what DHL's issue is there either. As for searching for codes on their website when booking a collection, it is a bit of a nightmare. Their lists and search features are incomplete and not user friendly, You sometimes have to search for the same thing over and over until the website "learns" what you might actually be looking for. The website needs to be fixed too. Come, DHL, you can do so much better.

Dear Eugene,

Thank you for contacting DHL Express .

Please accept our apologies regarding the manner in which this matter has been handled.

I understand that this incident has been of great disappointment to you and I assure you that this matter has not been taken lightly and is in no way reflective of the level of service that DHL Express prides itself in.

I have looked into your case and can also confirm that your parcel has been stopped by Customs for a physical examination . There might have been a slight miss-communication regarding the delayed transit as the shipment might not carry ******* substances but more prohibited items that are not allowed to be exported to destination country .

I have followed up with the relevant department to confirm when the examination will take place and estimated departure date of your parcel. I can appreciate the undue frustration that has been caused to you by this matter , but if you allow us time, we will ensure that this is followed up until fully resolved.

I will be sure to contact you again on Monday with additional updates on your case.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly and I will gladly assist.

Best Regards,

Ms Buhle Sekoboane

"the shipment might not carry ******* substances but more prohibited items that are not allowed to be exported to destination country ." That is not true. I have sent the same kinds of items for at least ten years to the United States from Europe, the Far East, South Africa and Gambia by means of the relevant post offices, by means of EMS and by means of PostNet's DHL service. In addition, I confirmed telephonically with DHL before I packaged anything that everything I was putting into the box could be transported with DHL. I knew the answers were 'yes' but I wanted to make sure everything I knew DHL knew and that this ended up on a tape recording at DHL's offices.
