We send a gift/parcel from South Africa to Ios Greece using Postnet/DHL Express. The courier cost amounts to R 1070.00. The value of the content of the parcel is R 1000.00. Parcel arrives in Greece and we are informed via e-mail that taxes and a clearance fee amounting to Euro 63.80 will have to be paid on delivery. I find it vey embarrassing that the recipient of the birthday gift has to pay this amount when taking delivery of the parcel. DHL say they cannot do anything as it is a Greek Government directive. No one informed us of any additional charges when we handed the parcel in and paid the courier for the 1200 gram parcel. Will we send a gift again? Not unless the Service provider is transparant and declare all charges and additional costs/taxes.
