BE AWARE OF DHL INTERNATIONAL - overcharging and no communication

Our company used DHL International a while ago to collect a parcel from Johannesburg. I received a quotation based on my estimated size and weight of the package. I settled the pro forma invoice immediately. We were quoted an amount of R 530.00. Ten days later another amount of R 3500 was deducted from my credit card without my consent nor prior communication from DHL. We immediately contacted DHL telephonically and was informed that my package weighed 4.5 kg and not 2 kg as per my estimate. I asked the consultant as to why DHL did not consult with our company and to explain their tariff structure as to me it does not make sense to charge R 530 for 2 kg, but for a 4.5 kg package an amount of R 4030.00 was charged. The consultant explained that we should have been consulted and apologized that they continued with the collection and delivery without prior consultation. I explained that we are a construction company and transport heavy machinery regularly for less than the ridiculous amount that we have been charged. She did not reply and we since did not hear from DHL again. Be aware and cautious before making use of DHL International, while many more competent companies to be at your service.
