70% VAT/Customs and 50 other charges!
I ordered a package via an international store located in Dubai and they use DHL as their courier company. I paid R933 for the package and yet was charged R645 by DHL as customs/vat and 50 million other charges! That’s about 70% customs and vat which I’ve never been charged before. Customs/vat is about 50-60% but never 70%. I emailed the clearance team with my bank statement attached to clarify that on the 14th of May I paid R933. Please explain to me how I’m paying 70% vat again as that’s ridiculous honestly. But low and behold my email has been ignored but ive paid the fee since they keep sending 10 SMS's and emails to pay yet they cant respond to one of mine? I have another package purchased from the same store and I better not see that same ****! I will not pay the same charges. DHL needs to look at the VAT and customs as they charging way above!

DHL Express enjoys excellent relations with Customs and other related Authorities worldwide and we seldom encounter difficulties. We are unable to intercede with their procedures and regulations, as they are Government controlled entities and we have to abide to their rules and regulations. All cargo imported and exported to any country has to be lodged to Customs, regardless of the transit method. All cargo will be raised with either Duties or Taxes, pending the final clearance processes.
There are items that are considered as luxury by customs hence they are attract high duties.
