Devlabs got the contract as Daniel comes across very confident in his abilities and stated on 3 occasions that he can complete the project in 2 months (all other companies stated 3 months). As soon as we paid the deposit, the first excuse was given. On our launch date, the wire diagram wasn't even finished yet. The list of (ungrounded only) excuses we received can be seen below. These exclude further excuses that were (at least) more work related excuses such as system down, testing taking longer than expected, etc type of thing.

A YEAR later the project was still not complete. He handed over the work done to this point, which was of such poor quality that none of it was usable. Some of the backend coding was non-existing (static/no function to front-end) and the rest was full of bugs and code errors. The deposit alone was over R80 000, and although Daniel claims they've put in much more hours worth than the deposit, the proof is not in the pudding. Perhaps they did put in all these many hours, but then the product simply shows that they are by no means experts in what they do as our new developer company finished the project within budget and in the timeframe. I have nothing to show for the R80K and had to start the whole project from scratch.

Furthermore it seems as though Daniel is not as skilled as he presents himself. He did not know how to carry out a very simplistic function (shipping fees based on weight brackets). Thus, 0-5kg to charge R50, 5,1-10kg to charge R100. He said that he first needed to figure out how to do this. He could not do so till date.

I also had to send the same emails and info repeatedly as he seems to miss a lot of emails. Even info that I have sent 3 months prior, nothing was done about and then I would be asked for it (as if for the first time) again months later.

I now present to you the list of (ungrounded) excuses received;

Please note that he states in the contract that he will appoint additional resources should he be short due to illness or whichever case - he does not honor this clause in the contract.

6 July 2021: We’ve been a bit delayed with the National Arts Festival having to move online since the new Covid regulations last week and been extremely busy updating everything for them.

18 October 2021: Our lead dev had a family member passing away on Thursday and just giving him some time.

9 November 2021: Yesterday I was man down with a stomach bug and flu (stomach bug is gone now but still have the flu)

3 December 2021: I just need to pick up my daughter

10 January 2022: Apologies, we all had covid the last two weeks and were isolating so was very hard to get any work in.

18 January 2022:Just had my one dev busy going through a divorce which is caused a backlog (NOTE! No work was done on our project for THREE MONTHS due to this excuse).

21 January 2022: Sorry, had a minor accident this morning when my car rolled into our drive way gate. Luckily no-one was hurt.

31 January 2022: I’m just sick with a stomach bug and was up all night.

4 March 2022: Apologies I was sick yesterday with a fever, possibly from my daughter who also had it.

5 March 2022: Still just waiting on the release, got a bit delayed yesterday will let you know once done.

9 March 2022: Apologies, I fell ill after Friday and only starting to get better now. The Dr said it was the old fashioned influenza and we can’t call it man flu because my wife had the same thing with the same symptoms.

22 March 2022: Apologies, our PM and tester has had covid and has been ill.

Devlabs has not only cost us over R80K with nothing workable to show for it, but also a year of projected income and huge damage to the company's credibility with our clients.
