Good Day,

I started submitting claim on first around March 2019 for my son’s dad who passed away in 09 December 2018. That time I only had Abridged Birth Certificate , I was then told to apply for UNAbridged Certificate. I then received the certificate after 6 months. When I went to Dept. of Labour to submit the certificate, I was told to bring a letter from my son’s previous school as a proof of maintenance. I brought the letter from school. And I was now told to bring an affidavit from my son’s grandmother (his deceased’s mother) I did that . And now I am told to bring her ID copy.

I don’t have a problem bringing all the stuff together. But what is not pleasant about the whole thing is when I am told every time I bring something else, that there is some documents that I should bring.

Below are the documents which I brought together with the forms from labour:

• Unabridged Certificate for the minor child • Guardian’s certified copy of ID • Deceased’s certified copy of ID • Guardian’s Letter from bank • Letter from school • Letter from previous school which sates that the deceased was mainly responsible for school fees • Guardian’s Affidavit which states that the deceased was financially supporting the child and that I the guardian I am the mother to the minor • Affidavit from deceased’s mother which states that the deceased had only one child who he was fully supporting • Service certificate from deceased’s employer • Ui19 from deceased’s employer • Certified copy of death certificate

I am now told that my mother who happened to be in Eastern Cape needs to go and make affidavit as well to prove that my son, who is / was staying with me was supported by his father. I do not understand why is my mother part of this.

What documents should one bring when submitting such claim? I feel like I have submitted more than enough documents I was told to submit before.
