UIF is a scheme_ The UIF claims departments do eveything they can to make sure you dont claim it.
In February 2024, I was laid off from my job and promptly submitted all the necessary documents to the UIF online portal. It's been six months since I app****, but I haven't received any payment from the UIF claims. I've been consistently following up on my application, making 3-5 calls per week to seek resolution, but the agents handling my case have only offered assurances of escalation.
During a conversation with a team leader named Emmenual Maluleka, I was promised that he would personally address my case, but I later discovered that the same team leader had initiated an appeal with the UIF appeals committee without my consent. When I call and ask to speak to Emmenual he is never available, and he has not returned my calls for the past month now.
My attempts to engage with the appeals committee have been unsuccessful, as their representatives are inaccessible and unable to provide information about their expected response time. Just last week, I was told to resubmit all the required documents. However, when I called this morning, I was informed that I needed to go to my nearest UIF center to manually submit my documents. In most cases, when you go to the UIF center, they tell you to submit it online, or they might be offline the whole day for UIF claims.
More and more, the UIF claims process seems to be a scheme to take money from hardworking South Africans. Additionally, when they truly need it, the department makes it very difficult for them to obtain it, and as soon as you get a new job, all the UIF that you have paid disappears, and you can't claim it. *******ion at its worst.
