UIF Claim - No response for 4 months and not paid out 7 months later!

Horrifying!

I was retrenched last year and had to apply for my UIF. After several back and forth conversations I was advised that my documentation was not completed correctly by my former employer. A few days later a representative at the labour department contacted me to say that she found an error on their system and I should come meet with her to re-apply, as all my original details were in fact correct. I then went to the Verulam labour dept twice to meet with her and I was told she was "out for the day", so I could not not complete this new application.

I was then advised to submit a dispute against my UIF rejection, which I did online. Now, 4 months after this dispute I have been advised that it was also rejected because I am now working. It took 4 months to get an answer!!

It has now been 7 months since I was retrenched and I still have not received a single cent of the UIF I have paid towards for years. in fact, it has taken so long for them to get back to me that I have already started contributing to my UIF again with my new employer.

My reality now is that because I didn't earn a salary for 3 months and didn't receive a cent in UIF support, I had to take out 2 loans and maxed out my credit card, which I am still paying off!
