Refusal of Illness Benefit Claim by Department of Labour SA

Good day,

Kindly note that I was in ICU for 4 month in 2022 and was placed on temporary disability by my company. The Illness Claim was submitted to the Department of Labour on the 13th October 2023 for the 4 months that I was not getting paid due to ill health. As per the process the Department of Labour is supposed to assess my claim and pay it within 7-14 working days. I have been following up with the Department of Labour from 2022 October with no luck to date. I subsequently went to the Labour Center in Randburg on the 21st June 2023 and I was told that my illness claim has been processed and will be paid into my account in 7-14 working days. Today on the 1 August 2023, I call the Labour Center and I am told in a very rude manner that unfortunately my claim has been rejected and will not be paid. This was done with no explanation and the call was dropped in my ear.

My sincere request is that the Department of Labour take full accountability of how my case has been handled though ever since I started working, I have been contributing to the UIF.

I would like Hello Peter to intervene as there is no one in the government sector that I can escalate this matter to hence we are treated in this manner as paying citizens of SA.
