Overpayment complaint - UIF claim
I'm writing this because I'm tired of waking up in the morning to go stand in the long ques at the Vanderbijlpark office only to go back home with no assistance.
Would you kindly help with this query?
My UIF claim was approved in April of last year 2023, but the money was not transferred to my bank account because of an overpayment. I filed a maternity benefit claim in 2014, however the problem is that the employer miscalculated the dates on the UI19. Advance Channel Technologies is the name of the company where I had my maternity leave, which lasted from February to May of 2014. The company was moved to a new company on March 1, 2014, while I was on maternity leave.
When left for maternity leave, I was working for Advanced Channel Technologies and when I returned from maternity leave the company was now Tarsus Technologies. This integration happened when I was on maternity leave.
The new company, Tarsus Technologies they listed my transfer date as March 1st on the UI19, which according to the Department was wrong because I was on maternity leave at this time. My query was then forwarded to the supervisors at the Vanderbijlpark office. They informed me that the company had made a mistake on the UI19 and that they should have stated I began working for the new company after my maternity leave. I can understand this because I started working for the new company on June 2, 2014. I was instructed to request that the company must do a fresh UI19 and a confirmation letter in order to correct the dates.
I submitted those documents in September 2023 and also it was a mission to get them since this incident happened 10 years ago, but nothing has happened since. When I follow up with the supervisors, they tell me stories and that they are waiting for Head Office to resolve this and that rectifying an overpayment is a difficult task. How is it possible for a government organization to lack an error correction system? I have asked them to provide me with the details of the person who is handling my claim, but they are giving me a run around. On the 4th January I followed up again, they asked for the documents that they have requested me submit, which means that no one is doing anything about this query. Every time when I follow its like I am telling them a new story.
Even though I have no fault in this, I am the one who is suffering. I have been fighting to get my claim since last April. They took R7000, but the system says I still owe them R3000 because I received R10000 in maternity benefit in 2014.
As a matter of fact even if I decide to drop this like everyone who follows up and eventually gives up on their UIF claims because they don't get assistance, I will still have a problem when I try to submit a claim in future. And plus I am entitled to this money. I need it.
The Department of Labor hasn't paid me, its been 10 months, and this money was meant to provide us with some short-term relief while we look for work.
Could you kindly help me? I need this question query as soon as possible. I have attached herein the UI19 and letter from the company.
