No point paying UIF in South Africa

I became unemployed at the end of March 2023. We are now in August and I have still not had any progress on my UIF claim. Why do South Africans pay UIF when the process is so broken and there is actually no benefit?? Calling the call center is useless as the line is clearly broken.
