Mitchell's Plain UIF centre appalling service

I wish to formally raise a complaint regarding the disgraceful customer service at the Mitchell’s Plain Labour Department office.

Applicants are told to apply for UIF online and then instructed to wait 7–15 business days for a payout. However, after waiting, no payout is received. When you go to the labour centre for assistance, the situation is appalling: more than 40 people are left waiting while only 7 staff members are present. At 12pm, 6 of them leave for lunch simultaneously, leaving just one person to assist the entire queue.

The call centre is equally unhelpful, repeating the same scripted response that “you will receive money in 7–15 business days,” without offering any real assistance. Staff at the Mitchell’s Plain office display rude attitudes, take excessive breaks, and appear to spend more time eating than working.

This level of service is unacceptable. The community depends on this office for essential support, yet people are treated with disregard and left without the help they urgently need. I urge that immediate corrective action be taken to improve staff conduct, efficiency, and accountability at this branch.

Reviewer Update
I am writing to formally raise my concern regarding my UIF payment. The payment that was due on 6 February 2026 was withdrawn by government for the amount of R27,729.72. Additionally, on 27 January 2026, an amount of R6.59 was paid to me, which was indicated as the change after government determined that I was over in debt.

Currently, I am awaiting payment again, but on the UIF online portal there is no indication of my application status or payment status. This lack of transparency is deeply frustrating. Furthermore, the call centre has proven to be of no assistance, as they cannot provide any resolution when contacted.

I request urgent clarification and resolution regarding my UIF payment status. The current handling of this matter reflects poorly on the Department, and I urge you to take immediate action to resolve this issue.
