Waiting 8 months for a ID

I app**** for an ID book 8 months ago as my Old green ID book was destroyed. I have sent mails to the department and all they keep saying is follow up after a week. It costs me to apply for a tempory ID and they are only valid for 2 months. I think this is very concerning I am not sure who I must contact for assistance.
