South African citizen denied right to a passport due to incompetence of Home Affairs

<p>I app**** for a new South African passport in Indonesia in June 2016 with Ms Saartjie de Beer at the South African Embassy in Jakarta. <br />In August 2016 I requested that the passport be redirected to South Africa as I returned home unexpectedly and would not be able to collect it in Jakarta.</p> <p>According to Ms Saartjie de Beer, the passport was addressed to Ms Kube via mailbag AF07 dated 23 August 2016. <br />Ms Kube, claims to never have received the parcel, and Ms Saartjie de Beer has been unable to provide us with any additional tracking or reference number for the parcel.</p> <p>For all intents and purposes, it is clear to me that my passport is lost. This means that I hav the right to obtain an affidavit and apply for a new one but am told by Mr Plaatjies that the system will block me from doing so, as the passport needs to be marked ‘missing’ from DHA office in Pretoria.</p> <p>I have been making daily phone calls followed up by daily emails to Mr Samuel Plaatjies who has been handling the case for me since 11 May 2017. <br />According to Mr Plaatjies, I may not apply for a new passport until someone at the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria is able to provide an official statement that it is missing. No one in the string of emails appears to have the authority to do so.<br />I am a South African citizen with the right to a passport, which is denied to me due to the incompetence of the South African Department of Home Affairs. <br />The entire DHA and South African Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia are an absolute joke and an embarrassment!</p>
