poor service and abuse by security

My son turned 16 this year and went to home affairs on Wednesday 26 October 2016 to apply for his ID.

Upon arrival, he was informed that he needed to be accompanied by me (his mother) and my ID. Nothing like this on the website though.

The following day, I requested to leave work early in order to accompany my son. The process of getting a number and having his biometrics and photos taken went quite smoothly. Once done with that, we had to

wait. After waiting for more than half an hour, we were informed that the system (network) was down and that we had to return the next day to go through the same process. I asked the person that assisted us if I can send my son with my ID, as I cannot leave work early again, and he said it would be better if I accompanied him. He gave us a paper that said we must be back the next day due to the network being down, and informed us to be there by the latest 16:00 and to show the slip to the security and we would be moved to the front of the line. (please see attachment)

On Friday, 28 October, I left work early again. I dropped my son off and told him to go in while I am parking.

When I went in and looked for my son, he was nowhere to be found. When I called him to ask where he was, as I was waiting inside, he informed me that the security refused to allow him to enter. I went outside and asked the security why she is refusing him entry if we have a letter stating that we must be there that day.

She refused to even look at the paper and closed the glass doors on my son. He had an arm and foot in the door and she just continued pushing him out.

There were people that came after us, and she opened the door to let them in. I asked her again what the problem was and why she was refusing my son entry and informed her that we were told to come back that day and that the guy said we must come back before 16:00. She then informed us that they close at 15:30.

When I informed her that we were told to be there before 16:00, she informed us that we can’t come there at 3 minutes to 4 (after arguing the whole time) and want to go in. I requested to speak to someone else, as she

refused to listen to us and refused to look at the papers we were given in order to be allowed entry and she just kept on closing the glass doors on my son, whilst pushing him out. At the same time, she allowed other people to enter for the same purposes.

I find this behaviour unacceptable and abusive. How does the security “select” who they will allow in and what is the basis for this “selection”? We have to pay for parking and petrol and waist time every time we

have to go back in order for my son to apply for his ID and every time he is unable to apply due to factors not under his control. I am not prepared to go through this process again, just to be sent home without success for the 4th time. Not only was my son denied access, but he had to tolerate the security guard’s abuse as well by being pushed and shoved out the door and the door being closed while he was standing halfway in the door (more than once), trying to talk to someone that clearly had no interest.
