Obtain a passport renewal within 3 working days

Our family planned a trip to Europe and Russia in June this year and obtained Scengen visas well in advance. We realised only a few days before the trip that our one daughter's passport will not be valid for 6 months after our return and that she might be refused to leave the country. The only option was to apply for a renewal of her passport. We arrived at the Centurion office at about 14h00 and queued outside to enter it at about 15h00. Shortly after entering, the floor manager informed us that we are welcome to wait but that they will probably not be able to assist us since there were too many applicants for the day. We took the chance and finished with the application shortly before 17h00. The whole team worked overtime without overtime remuneration. The new system saves a lot of time and no forms or photos are needed. The only drawback is that you have to collect it in person (an improvment of security). We were told that it would take at least 2-3 weeks. One assistant said one week and onother said that it might be ready in 3 days. Enquiries to the office over the following days all resulted in the same answer: 2-3 weeks with no way to expedite it. Mericles happen! We recieved the passport within 3 working days, just in time.
