Two years ago, when I was 69 and the Smart Card came out I went to Randburg Home Affairs to apply for the (I was told FREE) Pensioner's offer. After standing in the queue and completing the form I was told it would cost me R140. I queried this because it was supposed to be free, but was told that I had already had a free ID - this was because 4 years before I had had a smash and grab at lights by a black youth - so basically was being ****** twice. I did not have the money so left. Last year when I turned 70 I returned to try again, but was told that because I was born in the UK (been here 69 years) I would have to wait. I tried again but again was told to wait, so just gave up. Last Friday I app**** for the renewal of my passport and 3 days later received an SMS to say it was ready. Wednesday I went to collect it at 3.40, but was not allowed entry, although the sign said Clients could enter until 4pm and the staff left at 4.30. I phoned Home Affairs, forced my way in, but although it was still before 4, was not given a ticket.
