Other citizens (younger than 60 years old and applying for a new smart ID card):

Green bar-coded ID, or an affidavit in case the ID is lost. Proof of residence (where it is available) or provide residential address. Marriage certificate, if married (for marriage verification status). Divorce decree, if divorced (for divorce verification status). A fee of R140 will be required.

The above are the requirements to apply for a new smart ID card for people who already have a green bar-coded ID. The Department is telling me now that they require the ID's of my parents. None of this was communicated to me when i was applying for the new smart ID and Passport.

after paying so much money for my passport and smart ID card, i get an sms that my application wont be done until i provide the supporting documentation.
