It is with great disappointment that we are still treated like some piece of trash when visiting Home Affairs (Umgeni branch).

Firstly, I have an issue currently of an incorrect identity document inline to my gender and it was the department's fault. Sadly, I have to pay to rectify their mistake and I surrender.

Secondly, I am being advised to deny that I have an identity document with incorrect gender numbers and swear at the police station by writing an affidavit. WHY SHOULD I LIE ABOUT MY FIRST ORIGINAL IDENTITY DOCUMENT? Is this still part of the process that I should lie and swear that i never had an identity document, yet it was issued while I was at high school level???

Thirdly, its been more than a full month of waiting for the correct identity document and I'm still waiting, because my whole life depends on this rectification. When doing a follow up through the department's contact centre, only a certified copy of my current original identity was mentioned as outstanding.

Surprisingly, when submitting this copy I am advised to deny having the very same original identity, worse of all I must swear using an affidavit from SAPS, WHY??? How do I make a copy of an identity document, get a police to certify that I have brought the original and then deny having an original identity through an affidavit??? I am traumatized, can someone please solve this riddle for me.

Last but not least, the level of service that I received from the reception desk made me feel less of a man / human being. I don't even recall the lady verifying with system the required documents as per the pend reason as far as my ID application is concerned.
