Failure to Capture Paid Unabridged Marriage Certificate Application, Roodepoort Home Affairs

This is a formal complaint regarding a serious administrative failure at Roodepoort Home Affairs.

I app**** and paid for an unabridged marriage certificate at Roodepoort Home Affairs on 7 January 2026. Despite applying in person and paying the required fee, my application was never captured on the Home Affairs system.

On the same day, I received an email from Koenas Kgongwabna confirming that no application exists for my unabridged marriage certificate and advising me to visit Home Affairs to apply. On 9 January 2026, I visited the Simmons Standard Bank Home Affairs branch in Johannesburg, where staff again confirmed that no application exists in the system.

This confirms that Roodepoort Home Affairs failed to perform its basic administrative duty of capturing a paid application. This is not a processing delay. This is a failure to log an application at all.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is that I am repeatedly told that an unabridged marriage certificate “usually takes time” and can take up to six months. If this document is known to take longer, it raises a serious question as to why applications are not captured correctly and promptly at the start of the process, or why resources are not allocated to ensure these applications are logged and progressed without unnecessary delay. A six-month timeline should not begin with an application that is never captured.

I am applying for a job visa abroad and am working under strict international deadlines. The failure by Home Affairs to capture my application is now directly placing my employment opportunity at risk. I have comp**** fully with all requirements. I paid. I app****. I followed up. Yet I am being ignored and sent between offices while no one takes responsibility for correcting an error that is clearly not mine.

What is unacceptable is that no one has provided clear instruction or ownership of the resolution. I am being told an application does not exist despite having app**** and paid, and I am expected to wait months for a process that has not even formally started due to an internal failure.

This complaint is not a request for sympathy. It is a demand for accountability and immediate corrective action. Roodepoort Home Affairs must urgently capture my unabridged marriage certificate application and submit it to the system without further delay. I expect written confirmation or a reference number once this has been done.

Home Affairs’ internal inefficiencies should not be allowed to jeopardize citizens’ livelihoods or international obligations.

I expect this matter to be treated with the urgency and seriousness it clearly warrants.
