Extremely Dissatisfied with the Department of Home Affairs

I'm writing this review as a last resort, hoping someone will take notice of the unacceptable service we've received from the Department of Home Affairs.

My mom app**** for an unabridged marriage certificate in June 2023, with an expected processing time of 8-24 months. It's now November 2025, and we're still waiting – 28 months later! The delay has caused us immense stress and financial hardship. My dad passed away in May 2025, and the bank is threatening to repossess our assets due to the outstanding certificate. Life cover policies have collapsed, and we're stuck in limbo. We've visited the Department of Home Affairs every month since 2023, sent emails, and received generic responses to "check in 2 weeks." The lack of care and accountability is staggering.

The supervisor at Wynberg branch promised to escalate our issue, but we've heard nothing. It's like we're invisible. It's disheartening when you feel like you're not being heard or helped.
