Department of Home Affairs Randburg

I had a very disappointing experience at the Randburg Home Affairs Department’s collections office today. We arrived at 15:25, just five minutes before closing time, after struggling through terrible weather to get there. Instead of being met with basic courtesy or understanding, we were asked “Who opened for you?” — as if we had done something wrong by arriving before closing time.

To make matters worse, one staff member loudly said, “Shut down the computers, shut them, shut them!” right in front of us, making it clear they had no interest in assisting anyone who arrived near closing time. It felt rude, dismissive, and deeply unprofessional.

People who clearly hate their jobs should not be working in public service. Civil servants are there to serve the public — not to make citizens feel like an inconvenience. We all understand that closing time is important, but basic respect and professionalism cost nothing.

Very disappointing experience overall.
