Department of Home Affairs Prospecton
Yet again, Home Affairs Prospecton systems are not working. This occurs 4-5 time per week, often for the whole day, which we experienced on Friday 13th April. We are due to go back tomorrow but, at this rate, it is unlikely the systems will be working. We will not go tomorrow because, although this is not publicised, they open late due to a monthly meeting. If only these meetings could take place on on of the many days when the systems are down all day, but I guess they are too rigid for that. The clock-watching is also next level, and the staff says they do not get paid overtime so could care less that we sit on a wooden bench for 8 hours without being processed. The fact that their capacity is 80 people per day is also indicative of the lack of productivity/interest. The loss of productivity to the country as a whole, when people have to take numerous leave days to perform what should be a simple transaction, is mind-boggling. Why can every private corporation have IT systems which are up & running 90% of the time but Home Affairs seems to be 10%? Can some of the outrageous transaction fees not be invested in systems which work, manned by personnel who know how to run them? I hope Minister Malusi Gicaba visits Home Affairs Prospecton today whilst in KZN. The decay of the buildings and filthy grounds are indicative of the poor service delivery experienced by most of us. Home Affairs is apparently the worst Department in government and nothing seems to be done to improve matters. Ironically, I had to rate them with 1 star before I could write this review even though it is more than they deserve.
