Death Certificate racket

Dealing with the Department of Home Affairs has always been a challenge. New levels of incompetence were exposed to me over the past months following the death of my mother. On meeting the undertakers the day after my mother’s passing, we were informed that it was likely that on registration of my mother’s death, the death certificate would automatically record that my mother was married. Since my father passed away in 2018, and that the DoHA have a record of his death, I thought that the undertaker was exaggerating. Shockingly, my mother’s death certificate indicated that she was married and not widowed. The result of this meant that I needed to join the undertaker at the DoHA to request a re-issuing of the Death Certificate to indicate the correct information. To publish the death certificate initially took a matter of a few hours. To re-issue the edited death certificate will take two months. What a complete waste of manpower and time.
