complaint about insuffient service at Home Affairs- Durban, Commercial Street
I lost my identity document on Sunday last week and have since been trying to get a new one. That efforts has proven to be a huge task; in the last 3 days I have in the Department of Home Affairs in Commercial Street to be told that the systems are down and therefore there is nothing that can happen. So, today (12/07/2019) I arrived there at 5:30 in the morning. a security guard came to and counted people in the line and he never told us why; after that he came back to tell us that they can only take 150 people as they have about 200 intake of people they have to begin with from yesterday! after that a certain guy who call himself a manager came to tell us that if we are beyond 150 we are NOT going to be helped today as they are going to take 150 only for today and 200 from yesterday!
here is my concern about this: 1. Is it a new procedure at Home Affairs to register a day before to be assisted on the next day? (regardless that I was there yesterday but did not register my name). 2. Is it a procedure at Home Affairs that a security guard will count the number of the intake that the Home Affairs stuff should receive for the day? 3. For the past 3 days I was told that the systems are down, should I rely on them that the systems will be up on Monday? because on Tuesday I am writing my driver learner's test and I cannot write it without an ID or at least temporal ID...if I end up not writing is it fair form me to carry the costs that I am not liable to? 4. If it is their procedure to write the names of people that were left behind the day before why did they not write them today?
