Bias

When Smart Identity Cards were introduced, we were told that pensioners could apply from the anniversary of their b/day . IOW once they (in the case of a man) turned 65. I was long past that age so went to Kempton Park to apply and was told that they are going to process all SA Citizens firs .(I am a permanent resident who has been operating on a Blue Book I/D for a long time) Recently, I tried to apply online for a smart card and kept getting stuck, so I went to DOHA at Edenvale as I had read that they are efficient. When I explained my problem, I was informed that I could go in with two photos and apply for a 'Green Book' . I pointed out that that system was (had) being phased out in favour of the smart card. Was the told that because I was not a South African Citizen , I could never have a smart card and must just go ahead and apply for a green book. I have lived in this country since 1966, paying Taxes, School and University fees for my Kids and providing the country with the knowledge gained from my British Education without it costing South Africa a cent. Suddenly we have first and second class citizens again?
