Bad Service from home affairs and and no help from DA

I visited the Home Affairs office in Malmesbury on 6 March 2025 to apply for a new Identity Document and was shocked by the lack of service provided to your constituents. When I arrived at the office at 13:00, I found approximately 50 people waiting in line for the same reason. After an hour of waiting, an official, Ms. Cedras, came outside and announced—almost proudly—that this was the third time today she had taken the trouble to come and address those waiting. She informed us that preference was given to people with appointments and that walk-ins were only assisted between 08:00 and 09:00 and, if and when they could be helped in between those people with appointments. She further stated that if we wanted to be helped, we should arrive as early as 05:00. When I inquired further, she mentioned that the office could only assist around 25 people per hour. However, during the hour I was there, I observed that only about five walk-ins and ten individuals with appointments were allowed inside. Ms. Cedras also told us that most of those waiting—including a lady who had arrived at 11:00—would not be helped today. (my translation: Get there at 05h00 and pray you are among the first 25) To make matters worse, I was informed that there are no appointment slots available for the remainder of March unless we are willing to travel to locations such as Ceres. As someone who is relatively computer literate, I find the DHA website difficult to navigate, and I am certain that at least 70% of those waiting outside would struggle even more to access the internet and secure an appointment. It is evident that those who manage to book appointments online come from a very different demographic than the majority of us who stood patiently in line, hoping for assistance. Like me, most of these people urgently need an Identity document for various reasons, some as basic as opening a bank account, securing employment, or finding accommodation. Is this the kind of service delivery the DA promised before the elections? On the DHA Website it is stated that people who have no access to the Internet will be assisted inside the DHA office to assist them with making an appointment. At no point, during my interaction with the DHA official, was this service offered to any of the people waiting outside. The irony of this is that; if you do not have internet access to start with you would not even have knowledge of this service.
