Appalling incompetence and attitude from Randburg and Pretoria Home Affaris

I app**** for my child's name to be changed in November 2015. After 6 months of being told that my case had been received and assigned to a clerk, who would be processing it shortly, I was them, 9 months later, told that Pretoria had received the documents but had lost them. A warning here not to believe what the Hone Affairs Call Centre tells you.

I was told that my documents had to be resubmitted. When I went to Home Affairs in Randburg to start the process again, I was told by Damara Moruapheko, M.O.RANDBURG: BMD SECTION, that she would sort the matter out with Pretoria herself as she was going there the next day, and that she would phone me with an update. Needless to say, I did not receive a phone call.

I then phoned Damara Moruapheko and went back to Randburg to complete the forms for the second time. I was told by Damara that she would email the documents to the Call Centre and copy me on the email. This did no happen. By now I had lost total trust in the service offered (a service to which we are legally entitled) and returned to Randburg to make sure that the documents were emailed. Only when the manager, Lehasa Herman Lekalakala, knew that I was on my way, were the documents sent.

What concerned me the most was the attitude of Damara Moruapheko, which was rude and aggressive, with no acknowledgement at all that the public are the purpose of her job, not the interruptor of it. In front of the manager, Lehasa Herman Lekalakala, she asked me who I thought I was. Very disturbingly, Lehasa Herman Lekala ignored her comment. This is certainly not an example of visually-felt leadership. It is no wonder that many of the Randburg employees lack a customer-centric approach, if this is the example they are being given by their manager, and if failure to perform their civic duties is tolerated to this extent.

There are so many qualified people who are desperate for jobs. Why is the Department of Home Affairs holding on to people who are clearly not fit to hold office as civil servants?
