Another bad review
Mitchell's Plain Home Affairs office, whoever is in charge or makes the rules (for the day) LACKS common sense! I arrived there with my son at 5h20 to apply for his first ID (free). I was number 76 (we were hoping to be one of the first in line. We didn't make it and this was fine with us. We tried). More people arrived, the last as late as 8am - 2 and a half hours after my son and I. At 8am the office opened and they called eeeeveryone to one spot on the tar. The lady in the middle of this circle and she tells numbers 1 to 40 to line up. Bear in mind, we were all already in line according to our numbers! So she called us out of our social distanced line, had us surround her very closely so that we could hear her, only to send us back to our line. Anyway, they then started off with numbers 1 to 40. When 1 to 40 is now inside the building, they come out and call 41 to 60, have them sign the register and seat them on the benches. Then 60 to.. I don't know, this is where it gets messed up. So people from 60 to 150 now line up in 20s to sign the register. After you've filled this register, you have to go back in line. After this our numbers were no longer as important. It was only important when you were called for your reason that you were visiting this office. As an example, from somewhere in the 40s, all the temporary ID people were called. This took almost 3 hours. Numbers 100, 120, 140, 150 arrived long after me, were now being helped before me who made an effort to arrive early so that I could be out sooner than later. After temporary ID's, new birth registrations were helped. In between Collections were allowed in. Us, first ID applications, just had to wait until all other customers were seen to and out of the way, never mind us getting there 2-3 hours before them! This is unacceptable. They should then have time slots during the day. 8 to 10am Temporary ID's, 10 to 11am new Registrations, and from 11am or 12pm the FREE people. Many early arrivals were complaining loudly. We were all upset seeing how late comers were being helped before us! The response from an employee (to be specific, the guy with the waist coat and yellow tie, who sits at the front desk) was that they were attending to paying visitors first. In conclusion, I am unhappy that the man who arrived at 8am left at 10am and I, who arrived at 5h20am, only left at 2pm! Clearly the person in charge is incapable of running a Home affairs office (or any other as a matter of fact)! Send in a 'secret agent' and see this for yourself!
