Accounting incompetence

I went for a procedure and, before I left, asked the accounts lady if I owe anything. i was told that "I don't think so, but we will let you know." when i did not hear anything from them, I assumed the medical aid covered all the costs. However, 8 months later, I started getting messages and phone calls demanding payment. I find this completely unacceptable.

Over and above the financial disaster, 3 days after the procedure, I came down with a viral infection which I could only have contracted while being treated under unhygienic conditions.
