Oral examination

This morning I went for a checkup with Dr Tasmika Amin, since my regular dentist had retired. The oral examination involved the doctor looking at my teeth for about 20-30 seconds, before recommending an X-ray, which I politely had to decline. Thereafter, she said that there was nothing further she could do without an X-ray, though she then proceeded to take some optical pictures of my teeth, I assume, to fill the time. Her interpretation of these pictures was that I clench my jaw at certain times, most likely at night. I was not really sure what this clenching had to do with my compliant, especially since none of the aspects which she pointed out in the pictures seemed very convincing. Nevertheless, I assumed she knew best and reluctantly agreed to stop clenching, even if it meant staying up all night. After paying the account in full (for they do not claim directly from the medical aid), I happened to notice that it included a curious item, "x2 Infection control/ barrier techniques: R 164". When I asked the receptionist what this charge was for, she (there are apparently no men in this practice) responded that it was for the two gloves that the doctor wore during the examination. I now regret not having paid more attention to these gloves during the examination, since I would really have liked to see what such expensive gloves look like. Other than this curiosity and the fact that I now still have the sensitivity in one of my teeth, I have no regrets going to the Dental Ladies. I do miss my old-school dentist though.
