False advertising and breach of contract

I recently signed my parents up with debt safe as they were in some financial trouble. My father got cancer in January last year and because of this he was unable to work. Their accounts got ahead of them and before they knew it, they were in financial trouble.

I took on the challenge of helping them try get their lives in order and found debt safe. I contacted them and I liked what I heard. I specifically liked that there was an insurance policy that comes with it should something happen. My father is a 66 year old white male in this country. Unfortunately losing his job was a very real possibility but also I liked that If something happened to my father that my mother would not be liable for my fathers debt.

This month the unthinkable has happened, my father was not only retrenched but also received news that his cancer is back and is stage 4. My parents now have the burden of once again having the financial burdens of paying for medical treatment and living without my father working.

I contacted debt safe shortly after we received this news and I was told by my ‘relationship manager’ that she was unable to assist and I should wait for someone to contact me. I was told their sister company Finsafe was supposed to let me know that my father was not covered by the insurance policy as he is over 60. Both Debt Safe and Finsafe are not able to send me this correspondence and they both are passing the buk on to each other.

Regardless of this, I was not told that this was the case. If it were so then I would have found another company to assist in debt management as not having an insurance policy is reckless. I was told repeatedly and received more then one email, of the benefits of having the insurance policy but now when we are in need of claiming through this insurance policy we are now being ignored.

No one has helped me at Debt Safe, no one can give me any answers, and no one calls me back. I find this service absolutely shocking and should no one contact me by tomorrow then I will seek legal advice for my parents because I have been sold a lie and now because they are unable to help, my parents will be in even more financial trouble because now its not just a case of making a payment plan with the debtors. Let me withhold payment with debt safe and then see what happens. I am not happy, in fact I am downright furious. I will not recommend debt safe to anyone.
